Bob Keen you bought the full version of Pinnacle on a DVD? I bought what Yann has described in his earlier post. As I have not installed one for a considerable time, I am not precisely sure of the total content, but if I remember correctly, I got the main programme together with a request to augment it with updates from the Web.

Hi tonyp and Bob Keen , I'm pretty sure Bob's disc contains the download we all get when we execute the stub. Bob may have gotten the first version of the software when it was released but when he installs it, there is probably a popup window saying an update is available. For all the versions of Pinnacle I own, I have the latest version downloaded. That is not the issue I was referring to in my previous post. To my understanding, even if you have the "full version" you still have to enter your serial number. That serial number has to go to a server for validation to ensure you haven't installed the software on 10 different machines. If Alludo turns off that server, it doesn't matter if you have a disc or download, installing and/or running the program will not work. I don't believe you can enable the software without internet access. That is the issue if you want to reinstall the program or move it to a new computer. Unless my assumption is wrong..... saby ?

Candive, I too am wondering what happens is Alludo shuts down the servers. I don't think at the moment that is going to happen since they are still pushing "product". But how long this will go on for is anyone's guess.

I own some Serif programs that are no longer supported. What they did was to create a universal key that could be used for installation. You would like to think that once the program is eventually abandoned that Alludo would do something similar.

It is the honourable thing to do as people have paid money for the programs that they own and should have continued access to them.

Even Adobe gave out a universal key for a version of Photoshop which was old but for which the server no longer functioned. ISTR that it didn't work on a later version of Windows so they wern't giving much away. The whole subscription model does away with this issue, of course.

Well, if anyone is interested and has a copy of Magix editing software, there is a sale on Magix Movie Studio 2024 Suite. It comes with Vitascene V5 Pro. And the cost is $30 for the upgrade. Once you purchase the program, you are emailed the serial number for both Magix and proDAD. I was sent a link by proDAD because I was having trouble installing the software. Downloaded, installed, and then used the proDAD serial number to register. During installation, I could checkmark installing into OFX plugins, PS26 transition and Effects, along with Magix. So now I have Vitascene V5 Pro installed in Vegas Pro, Davinci Resolve Studio, PS26 and Movie Studio. Not bad for $30.

Thanks tonyp , This is a great offer from Magix so I took advantage of the $30 upgrade. When I installed proDAD via MMS2024, unlike Tony, it only offered me two checkmarks; OFX and Magix. After installation, I checked my video editors and Vitascene 5 was installed on Vegas Pro and my free version of Davinci Resolve. Unfortunately, unlike Tony, it did not install on Pinnacle or Videostudio. Because the installation process did not provide a proDAD installer stub,(or at least I could not find it) I wasn't sure how I would reinstall the software if I needed to. So I went to the proDAD website and created an account. Having an account allows you to download software updates and free trials. I downloaded the free trial of Vitascene 5 and installed it. To my surprise there were more checkmarks which included Videostudio and Pinnacle. After installation I discovered that my Videostudio Vitascene 4 plugin was replaced by version 5 and Pinnacle also had Vitascene 5. I checked to see if the plugins were only a trial and applied a watermark but they were clean. The installation also creates a stand alone version of Vitascene. Now that is a deal! Thanks again Tony!

Candive, no problem! The software has some nice features that users can explore. I am always curious as to how other editing software works. What they offer and how they can bring value to what I do. I do this as long as the price is right for me. Humble Bundle I also use if something comes along. The addition of Vitascene made the price a "steal". I downloaded the stub installer from proDAD so I had all the additional boxes to tick including what you posted. Installing it from within MMS you are limited to only two choices. I do like the transitions in it. Glad I could help!

I just remembered I purchased Magix sometime in 1980 or 1990 but was unable to use it because my computer kept crashing everytime I opened Magix. I'm not sure if I ever registered this program but it is still in its box. Not sure if I may qualify for and upgrade version.

Hi crazyvera , You can certainly try. The first step is to set up an account with Magix and register your old product. Then, when you select upgrade, the system will prompt you to log into your account so that it can verify your registered product(s) and qualify you for the upgrade.

Hi. And I'm sure that the Magixians are continuing to develop their VPX. And because I hope so, I have the current version on my computer. Just my two cents. Yes and crazyvera, Candive's suggestion should work.
